This weekend’s Champions League final features so much attacking talent with players all over the pitch capable of scoring outrageously good goals. Ahead of the final, we have taken a look at the 5 greatest goals from Champions league Final clashes…
1. Didier Drogba vs Bayern Munich (2012)
Just a few minutes left, against a Bayern Munich side who were in control, in their own backyard. The odds were stacked against Chelsea, and with time ticking it looked like there was only one winner. Chelsea get a corner. Juan Mata takes it then Drogba scores an absolute rocket of a header. Cue the iconic commentary from Martin Tyler and Gary Neville. We all know what happened from there…
2. Steve McManaman vs Valencia (2000)
The technique. Morientes’ header set Real Madrid on their way, but it was McManaman’s spectacular volley that really proved the difference in class between the two sides. Raul then ran half the pitch and round the keeper to seal a 3-0 victory for Real.
3. Dejan Savicevic vs Barcelona (1994)
In a dominant 4-0 victory for Milan against Barcelona, Dejan’s strike was definitely the best of the bunch. An exquisite chip executed to perfection.
4. Lars Ricken vs Juventus (1997)
The goal that sealed it. Dortmund were 2-1 up with 20 minutes to go… up steps Lars Ricken. Ricken received the ball as the team broke out from defence carried it before striking the ball beautifully over the Juventus keeper, game over.
5. Zinedine Zidane vs Leverkusen (2002)
Do you really need us to tell you about this one? One of the greatest goals ever scored, on one of the biggest stages in world football. The game sparked into life with 2 early goals from Raul and then Lucio responded for Leverkusen, 1-1. With 25 minutes on the clock, football history was made as Zizou pulled off the unthinkable to win it for Real Madrid.
