Remember Andrey Arshavin? Of course you do. The £15 million critter-like Russian who joined Arsenal after a quality Euro 2008. 4 years in England flying under the radar, popping up whenever he felt like it for a moment of pure brilliance. Cementing himself in Gunners history for scoring all 4 of Arsenal's goals in a huge 4-4 draw with Liverpool; netting the winner in a Champions League second round first leg against the mighty Barcelona.
Well, all these years later he’s popped up again for another moment of magic. Except this time it’s not a composed left footed strike in front of a rowdy Kop, or a goal against the best team in Europe.
Heard of FC Kairat? Probably not. It’s where 35 year old Arshavin has ended up, out in the Kazakhstani league. Here he is rolling back the years with a gorgeous first touch, a peach of a lobbed finish, and the half-hearted celebration of a man who knows he was within touching distance of being one of the greatest Russian players ever.
