After Mesut Özil’s incredible charitable contributions to the children of Brazil during last year’s World Cup, the Arsenal playmaker has once again given back to Brazil’s youth by paying for life-changing surgery for 11 children at a hospital in Coroata, Maranhao.
During last summers World Cup, Özil announced on his facebook page that he paid for the surgeries of 23 Brazilian children (one for every member of the victorious Germany squad).
One year on, and Özil is not stopping his charitable work. The news was announced on the official German National Team’s website, as the Arsenal star has vowed to once again change the lives of Brazilian children in need of surgery with the help of his “Mesut Özil Foundation”. It’s a fantastic gesture from the World Cup winner, and shows that his time spent in Brazil had a genuine effect on him off the football pitch.
