Following our first article on football manager wonderkids, you guys wanted to know what happened to YOUR favourite wonderkids… here is what we found.

What happened to Kerlon…

Kerlon

The Neymar before Neymar. Kerlon was definitely touted as the future of Brazilian football when he burst onto the scene, and in Football Manager he most certainly was. Kerlon could do it all he was the ultimate attacking midfielder in the game. In real life, he was expected to be the same. After leaving Brazil for Inter Milan it looked like it was just a matter of time until Kerlon proved his potential. Sadly after various loan spells and hardly any game time, the now 26 year old found himself in Japan, playing for Fujieda MYFC, until he left the club at the beginning of this year.

What happened to Nik Besagno…

Besagno

The other American ‘wonderkid’. Following in the footsteps of Adu, Besagno was also a ‘must have’ American in Football Manager. It was impossible to find a better holding midfielder in the game than Nik. Like Adu, Besagno was expected to really push on and become a top player especially considering in the 2005 MLS Superdraft, Nik Besagno was the overall first pick. After his spell with Real Salt Lake Besagno dropped out of the MLS. Nik also played for Seattle Sounders and had stints at PDL sides Tacoma Tides, Kitsat Pumas and is now playing for Washington Crossfire. Nik was unfortunately unable to live up to the incredible heights of his in game stats, but then again neither has any holding midfielder, Besagno was ridiculous!

What happened to Mika Ääritalo…

Aaritalo

One of many Finnish stars from the games editions. Mika was magnificent. You could snap him up for most sides and he always performed. Now he may not have actually been a ‘wonderkid’ on the game but he might as well have been. Even though Ääritalo is known from his time in FM 2008, the striker had already been touted by Aston Villa five years before hand. Villa brought in the Finland forward in 2003. Incredibly after two years in Birmingham, Mika had still failed to make his debut and returned to boyhood club TPS in February 2005. And the now 29 year old remains there today.

What happened to Lulinha…

Lulinha

Everyone knows Lulinha right? Just like Kerlon, big things were expected from this guy. This guy was brilliant across the frontline on FM and was certainly expected to do the same in real life. At the start it definitely seemed that Lulinha’s career would take off. For the Brazil Under 17s he scored an incredible 15 goals in 10 games! Sadly this sort of form was short lived and after turning out for various Brazilian sides the former Corinthians youngster now plays for Ceara. At 24, Lulinha still has time, although by this time in FM he was a world beater.
