Last Saturday, during a Polish 4th division match between Concordia Knurow and Ruch Radzionkow fans invaded the pitch to try and intimidate the opposing supporters when an officer shot a rubber bullet into the crown.  The shot struck a 27-year-old father of 1 known as Dawid in the neck, killing him within minutes.  This sparked angry reactions from fans who spent the night clashing with police. Following Saturday’s tragic events, Poland’s supporters made an appeal to international fan groups

“Dear Brothers, you may notice a disturbing abuse of power in Poland by the uniformed services, especially police. People who are haunting supporters do not assume the consequences of their actions and behavior. The tragic result of this problem was the death of Dawid Dziedzic during the match Concordia – Ruch. This weekend (May 9-10) please hang out banners dedicated to the murdered fan and banners condemning actions of the Polish police. “

The solidarity between football fans across the world became more apparent then ever over the course of the weekend.  Supporters’ sections from Colombia, to Sweden to Morocco displayed banners dedicated to Dawid, identifying with the struggle to preserve supporters culture in the face of police repression.
