Twenty years to the day a Belgian called Jean-Marc Bosman changed the history of football transfers for ever.

As the result of a stand off with his club, the Bosman law came into effect that dictated that players were able to move freely between clubs once their contracts had ended. The ruling by the Europe Court of Justice put the power back into the player’s hands, and has led to some incredible ‘freebies’.

Here’s our Bosman XI:

(4-3-2-1)

Van der Sar (Ajax to Juve)

Cafu (Roma to Milan)

Campbell (Spurs to Arsenal)

Babbel (Bayern to Liverpool)

Cocu (PSV to Barca)

Cambiasso (Real-Inter)

Pirlo (Milan to Juve)

Ballack (Bayern to Chelsea)

McManaman (Liverpool to Real)

Luis Enrique (Real Madrid to Barca)

Lewandowski (Dortmund to Bayern)
