The new Champions League campaign starts tonight, and so we sat down with our friends Sausages and Caviar to ask them why they love the Champions League and how they think this year’s competition will pan out.

What makes the UCL so special to you?
JL: Well, there are a few things that set it apart from other competitions around Europe. First of all, it’s the pinnacle of European football, with the best teams in the world slugging it out against each other. Aside from the football, what Kai and I love most has the be the Champions League music that gets played before the game. Whenever I hear it I just get goosebumps. It’s up there with the Match of the Day music for me.

What is your best Champions League memory?
KL: As an Arsenal fan, I’ve got to go with Dennis Bergkamp’s assist for Ljungberg against Juventus in 2001. The way he just toyed with the Juve defence until Ljungberg made his typical late run was just amazing.

Who in your opinion is the ultimate UCL player ever?
KL: Eboué. No question.

What is your favourite UCL goal of all-time?
JL: Another Arsenal goal, obviously. It’s Arshavin’s goal against Barcelona in 2011 when we beat them 2-1 at home. The commentary by Martin Tyler was amazing and it was one of the best games we’d ever played. The pass by Wilshere to Fabregas and then Fabregas to Nasri was just magic.

And the best Champions League Final of all-time?
KL: As much as it pains me to say it, it’s probably the Liverpool match against AC Milan in 2005 in Instanbul. Even as an Arsenal fan, it was hard not to enjoy an English team winning.

Right, on to this season. Who are you most excited about watching this year in the Champions League?
JL: I’m most excited to watch PSGthis year. They’ve got a lot of likeable players, like the monster Matuidi and that toe rag Verratti. Quality little player.

Who do you think will win it this year?
KL: It annoys me to say it, but probably Barca or Real Madrid. They always seem to go far and you’ve always got a chance with Messi or Ronaldo in the team.

Who could be the surprise package?
JL: I’m going to go for Roma. I just think they’re a good team. I don’t think they will win it, but they could go far. Plus I really like Pjanic and Nainggolan.

Do you think any of the English teams have a chance?
JL: I’d like to say Arsenal but City look the strongest. Saying that, they always seem to stink it up in the Champions League.
