The Collective is a curated community that brings together the people defining the future of football fan culture; a handpicked group of publishers, artists and organisations who are our belief that football is more than a game and has the power to unite people like nothing else does.

The Sydney Derby between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC served as another reminder that football culture has arrived in Australia. In the end, Sydney FC won the match 2-1 with a last minute goal in front of a crowd of nearly 20,000 people. Both sets of supporters had a great showing, which included corteos to the ground, flares, smoke, and a choreography from Western Sydney’s “Red and Black Bloc”.

In recent years, this fixture has becoming the biggest in Oceania.  The two sides boast significant supporters groups, and it stands as the largest single city derby in the country.

This season, Australian football has been hit with a scandal as hundreds of fans have been banned or arrested for using pyro at grounds.  This has led to unprecedented demonstrations of solidarity between Australian fans, determined to see a change in legislation.  This week was no exception, as 3 Western Sydney fans were arrested following the match.
