Cesc Fabregas had an extraordinarily fruitful start to the season, registering 12 assists by the end of December. Despite this, discussion around Fabregas has intensified recently concerning his dip in form since January and Mourinho’s ‘negative’ influence on the Spanish midfielder. Coming at the same time as Wenger and Mourinho’s war of words over ‘boring’ football, Fabregas has come under scrutiny for apparently becoming a more boring footballer since working under Mourinho. Do you agree?
Eden Hazard won the PFA Player of the Year award this weekend to cap off what has already been a fantastic season for the Belgian. At only 24, he is showing a maturity and dominance in his game well beyond his years. Hazard has already won Player of the Year twice in France with Lille and Young Player of the Year in England last year, so it was no surprise to see him lift this trophy so soon. The question is, is the Ballon d’Or next on his list?
It has been well noted how underwhelming Liverpool have been this season after their unexpected title challenge last year. Since selling Luis Suarez in the summer, Liverpool have really struggled to replicate the heights of last year. Another reason for this could be the fact that Liverpool had to compete in Europe this year too, which has added another 6 games or so on to their season. Playing in the Champions League is undoubtedly well worth the extra effort, but the same can not be said for the Europa League. Many fans consider the second tier of European competition to be a hindrance and a burden on their league performances, rather than a good opportunity to attain success in Europe. It will be interesting to see which of Tottenham, Liverpool and Southampton finish in that ‘coveted’ Europa League spot.
