What’s better than a sick kit? Four sick kits. What’s even better than that? Four sick kits that help the environment.
Parley for the Oceans teamed up with four Major League Soccer Teams — the LA Galaxy, New York City FC, Orlando City, and the Seattle Sounders — to release special one-off jerseys made of recycled ocean waste for Sunday’s Earth Day matchups. Parley partnered with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on similar kits (and even better promotional imagery) last November.
The kits are not for sale, but the Galaxy have opened bidding on theirs and NYCFC will be staging an auction on a few of theirs, with proceeds going to City in the Community.
And here’s a closer look at NYCFC’s:
In addition to the fantastic designs, all four jerseys have “for the oceans” embroidered inside the collar.
The only tricky thing might be that NYCFC will be playing Orlando and the Galaxy will be playing the Sounders in these pretty similar color schemes. For the sake of the players, hopefully “white-grey” and “grey-white” look much more different in person than they do on paper.
