Will Grigg’s still on fire and it doesn’t appear that his fifteen minutes of fame will be up anytime soon.
Grigg, who failed to make a single appearance for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016, and Paul Pogba, who is currently the subject of a potential world record transfer fee, received the same number of votes in the poll for Europe’s best player.
Journalists from 55 members voted for their best-ranked players from last season, and Grigg and Pogba both came in 25th out of 37 players.
Grigg became a legend in his native Northern Ireland, and the rest of the world, when ‘Will Grigg’s On Fire’ – a parody of the song Freed From Desire – was written by Wigan fan Sean Kennedy.
Although Grigg did score 25 goals for Wigan last season, we’re certain that this particular accomplishment has more to do with the song.
The ten-man shortlist does not include a single Premier League player, as Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez finished 11th and 12th respectively, while Dimitri Payet finished in 13th.
With Spain being the home of 7 of the 10 players on the shortlist, has La Liga officially distanced itself as the best league in the world?
