The Tactics behind Luis Enrique's Barcelona before El Clásico

For the last 8 months or so, Luis Enrique’s Barcelona have been going from strength to strength. Their attacking prowess, led by the inimitable Messi, helped them win a historic Treble last season and sees them top of La Liga this season. Even in Messi’s absence through injury, Barcelona have not struggled. In fact, Suarez and Neymar have flourished, scoring Barcelona’s last 17 league goals between them. It is for this reason that this saturday’s El Clásico will not all be about the usual Ronaldo-Messi duel.
Luis Enrique’s tenure at the Nou Camp has not always been this rosy, though. At roughly this stage last season, Luis Enrique seemed to be destined for the exit door, with rumours of discontent within the Barcelona squad at his management. There was even talk of a serious dispute between Enrique and Messi, with the Argentine seeking a move away from the club in the January transfer window. Fast forward to the end of the season and there was only talk of success, unity, and happiness. It could be said that Rafa Benítez is currently at the beginning of the same journey, but with Real Madrid. There have been reports recently of widespread dissatisfaction amongst the players with how Benítez has set up his team this year. Can he turn it around and relieve some of the pressure on his shoulders against Barcelona?
With this weekend’s El Clásico in mind, we have taken a look at how Luis Enqirue turned his fortunes around, and whether Rafa Benítez can do the same.
